The Sparkle Project
(Formerly Worthy Mother Podcast)
The Sparkle Project is a feminist podcast for moms who are done carrying the weight of motherhood alone and are ready to connect with who they truly are - their sparkle, if you will.
So many of us feel overwhelmed not because we’re failing, but because we’re mothering inside a patriarchal system that expects us to give endlessly, stay quiet, and lose ourselves in the process. This space challenges those outdated expectations and embraces a more empowered, more supported, more self-honoring version of motherhood.
Hosted by Emily Rose MacDonald, a divorced mom of two on her own journey to shine a little brighter, each episode explores the realities of modern motherhood through a feminist lens that values equity, autonomy, mental health, and the humanity of moms.
You’ll hear conversations about identity, mental health, self-care, healing, and the many ways we can reclaim ourselves in a world that often overlooks the needs of mothers.
If you’re a mom who believes we deserve more than survival, and that our culture has to evolve for moms to truly thrive, you’re in the right place.

Breaking the Cycle: Healing Trauma While Parenting with Aja Rutledge
Healing trauma is complex, and doing so while parenting children only adds to the complexity. This week, Self-Alignment & Trauma Care Practitioner Aja Rutledge is sharing her own journey to heal her own trauma while raising her son, and offering insight on how others can approach their own healing.
In the episode, Aja and I talk about:
- The need for self-alignment in parenting
- The opportunity for growth and healing in motherhood
- Navigating complex feelings as you break generational cycles
- Intergenerational trauma and epigenetics
- Developing trust and respect with our children
- Self-compassion and nervous system work
A little about our guest:
Aja Rutledge is a Self-Alignment & Trauma Care Practitioner who helps women reconnect with themselves through wellness and trauma healing. Her journey began as a late teenager when she realized that her unsafe childhood had deeply impacted her way of being in the world. This realization sparked her desire to learn more about trauma and its effects. In 2020, Aja faced a trauma-induced health crisis that forced her down a spiritual journey of healing, allowing her to (re)connect with her true self. With firsthand experience in healing her own trauma and the completion of a six-month trauma certification course, Aja is well-equipped to support others on their healing journeys. Understanding that is a major disconnector, separating individuals from their true selves, Aja guides women to reconnect with their bodies and intuition, helping them to realign with themselves and learn to walk that out in the world.
Aja's approach is rooted in her belief that reconnecting to oneself through the body and intuition is key to living an authentic life. She empowers women to heal their trauma, manage their wellness, with professional support, and pursue their desires. Her compelling narrative, dedication to research and experimentation, and ability to simplify complex topics resonate with, motivate, and inspire her audience. Now living abroad in Mexico with her family, Aja enjoys daily beach walks. Her personal and professional experiences make her a sought-after coach and speaker. With her guidance, audiences leave empowered, believing in their ability to overcome any challenge.
