The Sparkle Project
(Formerly Worthy Mother Podcast)
The Sparkle Project is a feminist podcast for moms who are done carrying the weight of motherhood alone and are ready to connect with who they truly are - their sparkle, if you will.
So many of us feel overwhelmed not because we’re failing, but because we’re mothering inside a patriarchal system that expects us to give endlessly, stay quiet, and lose ourselves in the process. This space challenges those outdated expectations and embraces a more empowered, more supported, more self-honoring version of motherhood.
Hosted by Emily Rose MacDonald, a divorced mom of two on her own journey to shine a little brighter, each episode explores the realities of modern motherhood through a feminist lens that values equity, autonomy, mental health, and the humanity of moms.
You’ll hear conversations about identity, mental health, self-care, healing, and the many ways we can reclaim ourselves in a world that often overlooks the needs of mothers.
If you’re a mom who believes we deserve more than survival, and that our culture has to evolve for moms to truly thrive, you’re in the right place.

Life and motherhood often come with many challenges and periods of deep transformation. Stephanie Shanks is sharing her story of overcoming, from becoming a teen mom to twins to going through two life-changing divorces. Her journey of motherhood shines a light on the power of resilence, courage, and holding onto a vision of more.
In the episode, Steph and I talk about:
- Stephanie's surprising and traumatic entry into motherhood
- The importance of personal growth and dreaming of a better future
- The power of creativity and self-expression
- Cultivating self-worth in motherhood
- How we get to create our own lives
A little about our guest:
Steph Shanks is a portrait and headshot photographer dedicated to capturing authenticity and the power of being seen. She also host the podcast "Unwritten," a platform where people share their personal stories, business journeys, triumphs, and hardships. Stephanie believe storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have for healing ourselves and others. As a single mom of three boys, family is at the core of everything she does. Her son Drew has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair, yet he lives independently. His twin brother plays a special role as one of his caregivers, and their bond is extraordinary. Stephanie has built her life and business around being the best mom she can be.
